Beauty tips and tricks: For make-up that lasts all day

How to get the basics right using primer and foundation

Combining the right steps and products in your daily foundation routine can give you results that will stand the test of (day)time.

A primer is the first step after moisturising and Isadora’s Protect Face Primer (€21.25) has an SPF30, which makes it doubly beneficial in terms of making your foundation last longer on your face and protecting your skin against the elements. Choosing a foundation is hugely personal; Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Light (€38) is available in 11 shades so there is almost sure to be a shade for most skin colouring.

For those who prefer heavier coverage there is Double Wear, which comes in an impressive range of 30 shades (from €34). Mixing your foundation with Mac’s Strobe Cream (€33.50) works nicely to lighten the coverage and to give the skin some extra radiance for the daytime.

Possibly one of the most hardworking and durable concealers out there is Mac’s Pro Longwear Concealer, which is available in 16 shades (€23). My only gripe with this product is the pump which usually dispenses more than I need. Dabbing a damp beauty sponge across your foundation and concealer at this point gives a lovely dewy, flawless finish.

It’s important to set your foundation with a powder especially if you have an oily T-zone. Apply your powder by dabbing it onto the skin with a large brush, rather that buffing it in, to give a lighter finish.
