Phyl Clarke has bronzing advice for men

Well, it's nice to know you're out there. I had planned another subject for this week, but on the back of a reader query from Mr. X, it's time, gentlemen, for you to step up to the bar.

What tinted moisturiser would I recommend for men, to cover blemishes, and uneven skin tone?, asks my pale-faced reader. I hope I'm not presuming too much, Mr X, but I'm guessing that if you are inquiring about this subject, you are not a regular visitor to the skincare counter. This may not be what you want to hear, but you won't get anything but a patchy, unnatural finish if you skip the skin care step.

As we speak, my trusty testers are giving skincare products for men their full attention, and I'll bring you the results in coming weeks. But for now, Nivea, Clarins and Vichy all have excellent products for men. A plus point here - they are available in pharmacies, so if you bump into someone you know, you can just pick up a can of Old Spice, and your macho image will remain intact.

I know how hard it is for you guys to ask for directions, but please don't be afraid to ask for advice here; you are not expected to be an expert. Start with an exfoliating wash. Shaving is a natural exfoliater anyway, so you've already made a start with skincare unbeknown to yourself.

You could stay in the chemist and invest in something like Johnson's Holiday Skin for the face. This moisturiser has a tiny amount of tanning agent in it which gradually builds up colour with daily use. Many brands are now bringing out this type of two-in-one product, as it moisturises and colours the skin in one go. Voila - result.

While this type of product will even out skintone, improve the overall look of your complexion and give you a healthy glow, it will not hide major blemishes. You will need a concealer for this, details below. Lastly, do check out the Menaji range on www.adonisgrooming.co.uk, as used by George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Enrique Iglesias and Antonio Banderas. It won't promise you the Hollywood lifestyle, but at least you can look like you live there.
