In a new competition, Generation Emigration is inviting Irish readers overseas to tell us about your relationship with the place you have made your home abroad, and why you love living there. What makes it different from Ireland? What aspects of the culture and customs have you come to love? Are you working in an unusual job? What makes you feel lucky to live there? Does it feel like ‘home’?
You can submit a written article or a video postcard, depending on which medium you prefer:
1. Article: Written entries should be no more than 600 words. Email your piece to emigration@irishtimes.com by midnight on Saturday June 6th, with the subject line "Why I love living in…" and a photograph of yourself.
2. Video: You can also submit your entry as a video piece, which should be under two minutes long and sent to via WeTransfer to emigration@irishtimes.com. It can be in any style, from an arthouse masterpiece to a simple but engaging piece to camera like the one Rachel Healy sent us from Canada.
The winning entry will receive a hamper of Irish goodies, sent direct to your home abroad. A selection of the best contributions will be published on irishtimes.com.
The Generation Emigration 'Ireland and Me' competition recently asked emigrants to submit pieces reflecting on their relationship with the land they left behind. Approximately 50 of the entries have been published on the site to date. Thanks to all those who shared their experiences.
