Antoine Stoffel, Pinot Blanc Auxerrois 2006, Alsace, 12.5%, €13.95Fresh, dry, full-bodied, but somewhat austere, this blend of Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, with soft apple notes, would make a good aperitif. Sheridans, as above.

Conterno Fantino, Barbera d'Alba Vignota 2005, Piedmont, 13.5%, €21.50Cherry and plum nose, full-bodied, with rich, juicy fruit in the mouth, earthy tannins and a long, meaty finish; a perfect match for a robust meat dish. From Sheridans, as above.
