An Easter treat

Achill mountain lamb delivered to your door

Martin Calvey's family has been raising Achill mountain lamb for more than 50 years, and while the location might be picturesque, it's the terroir that matters. "Our sheep graze freely on thousands of hectares of open Achill land and on part of the Wild Atlantic Way, where the sea mist lingers. They feed entirely on a natural diet of mother's milk, heathers, wild grasses and herbs," Calvey says. This results in a lamb that is "lean, with even marbling throughout for a delicate and succulent flavour." Achill mountain lamb is certified organic, and you can buy a whole lamb, butchered, boxed and delivered by courier anywhere in Ireland, for €99. It's hogget you'll receive now – thought by many to have more flavour and a better texture – with "spring" lamb available in June. Orders are taken by phone: 098-43158.
