Hip hangout for the hungry

New food hall and art space in Rathmines

Getting those creative juices flowing can be hungry work, but a new food hall, entertainment space and art studios in Rathmines, has all the bases covered.

Martcade, which touts itself as a "Berlin-style food hall", has a central food area surrounded by studios which form part of the MART visual arts group, and are populated by artists such as product and graphic designer Emily Flynn, glass artist Róisín De Buitléar and documentary and theatre writer Una McKevitt.

Food vendors so far include Pieman pies (we love their chicken, mushroom and Jameson pie, €6) Wall & Keogh teas and posh grilled cheese sandwiches from Le Petit Camion, whose cute French food truck is a familiar sight at Dublin food markets. Try their original Coolea cheese melt, €5.

Martcade also hosts free daily BYOB events from 5pm to 8pm, including gigs, theatre, comedy, Dublin Trade School workshops and Sunday night B-movies (tomorrow's is Sharknado). Martcade, 46 Rathmines Rd Lwr, Rathmines Dublin 6. Open Tues-Fri 11-8pm, weekends: 11am-4pm. facebook.com/themartcade
