The German industrialist who bought Rathdrisogue House in Castletown Geoghegan in Mullingar saw the potential in the Georgian house's old stone outbuildings and converted them into two mews houses. These have been successfully rented out to holidaying fisherman over the years and are now a valued part of the entire property which is for sale through Sherry FitzGerald Davitt & Davitt with a price tag of £480,000 (€609,000). The main house was built in the early 1800s and at one time stood on 200 acres. It was acquired by the Land Commission in the 1960s and subsequently subdivided.
Now the four-bedroom house has 1.2 acres of gardens which have been well maintained by the current owner who bought the house in the early 1980s. As well as renovating inside he added on the glazed front porch which blends in successfully with the attractive looking ivy-clad period home. The diningroom in the house is particularly grand as it runs from front to back and includes an entrance to the impressive conservatory. On the other side of the house is a small office to the front and a diningroom to the back. Upstairs one of the four bedrooms has an en suite. There is an outdoor tennis court which is floodlit and a sheltered barbecue area.
The house is half a mile from the village of Castletown Geoghegan and about 55 miles from Dublin.
