Househunters in the Wicklow area this weekend can combine a trip to the seaside with a visit to the showhouse at Seacliff, a small bungalow development on the outskirts of Wicklow Town.
There are just four large detached four-bedroom bungalows for sale in this phase, priced from £329,500 (418,380). Selling agent The Phillips Partnership will be taking bookings at the site on Saturday and Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. The builder is Marlton Construction of Gorey.
Seacliff is a relatively small scheme, with a total of 33 units in the entire development. Bungalows bought in this phase will be ready to move into between September and December this year and the entire estate will be finished by Spring 2002.
The development is located on the landward side of the coast road to Brittas Bay, just over a mile from the centre of the town. At 2,400 sq ft, these bungalows are large by any standard and would ideally suit a growing family. Density on the site is low, with three units to an acre providing good gardens and open spaces.
Interiors are equally generous in proportion, with a wide entrance hall and a good sittingroom off. Both this room and the study across the hall have open fireplaces, one sandstone and the other cast-iron.
A big country kitchen/diningroom to the rear of the bungalow is 500 sq ft - the size of many one-bed apartments in the city. Here, there is a good range of maple Shaker-style units, with a shelved utility and guest cloakroom off.
French doors open from the dining end to a large timber deck. All four bedrooms will fit a double bed. The main bedroom is very luxurious, with both an en suite shower room and walk-in-dressingroom.
Throughout, the attention to detail is evident. Internal doors are solid pine, double doors from the hall to the sittingroom open back for ease of entertaining and lighting is recessed in many of the rooms. The family bathroom and en suite both have power showers.
Outside, gardens are levelled and seeded and the sweeping front driveway is cobblelocked. Since Wicklow Town is an hour from the city, three-quarters of new buyers in the town are Dublin commuters.
The town is lively, with a new swimming pool, pretty shopfronts and a thriving cultural scene. There are also regular train and bus services to the city - a huge plus for commuters.
