Dublin 9: €800,000: It's a surprise, arriving on Clare Road, Drumcondra, Dublin 9, to find the elevation high enough to give views right across the city to the Dublin mountains.

Running between Griffith Avenue and Homefarm Road, Clare Road's redbrick houses were built in the 1930s and have something of the style of the earlier Alex Strain houses about them.

St Judes, at 19 Clare Road, is the first house on the road to come on the market for many years. With a floor area of 126 sq m (1,355 sq ft), it has an attractive, veranda-style front porch, four bedrooms, two reception rooms and an exceptionally long 54-metre (186ft) west-facing rear garden. Lisney is looking after its executor sale and guiding €800,000 in advance of the April 20th auction through Lisney.

Very much of its time, St Judes has been in the ownership of the same family for 40 years. It has been well cared for, with original features - such as doors, windows and bannisters - all intact, though modernising would benefit the kitchen in particular.

The squarish entrance hallway is well lit by a window overlooking the front garden and glass panelled front door. The interconnecting living and diningrooms are equally bright with a wide bay window to the front and a glass panelled door with side sash windows to the rear. Both rooms have functioning tiled fireplaces, picture rails and coving.

The breakfastroom and kitchen are separate, with an original fireplace in the former as well as a window overlooking the garden and understairs storage cupboard. A tiled shower room with toilet off the kitchen is the result of an extension into the garage. The remaining garage space is used for storage.

Three of the bedrooms are good sized, the fourth more in the nature of a box room. There are mountain views from the bay window of the main bedroom, which has a bank of built-in wardrobes and vanity unit. The toilet and family bathroom are separate with the hotpress in the bathroom.

The long rear garden offers ample opportunity for extending St Judes. Overlooking the grounds of Corpus Christi Church, it has evergreens along one side, hedging on the other and, towards the end, eight apple and blossom trees in two rows. Closer to the rear of the house there are a couple of sheds and an outside toilet. The front railed garden climbs gently to the entrance veranda-porch and has off-street car-parking to the side.
