COLLECTORS of political memorabilia will be interested in a 1933 colour poster of the first Fianna Fáil government.
The slightly damaged poster of Éamon de Valera, “President” (as the head of government was then called) and his nine cabinet ministers, estimated at €300-€500, is among 1,000 lots in a sale at the Ashgrove Auction Rooms in Portlaoise on Tuesday afternoon at 4.30pm.
Also, during the auction, fans of BBC TV's Antiques Road Tripseries can see the show being filmed.
Two of the show’s experts – Thomas Plant and Mark Hales – have been travelling in Ireland, buying antiques en route and are hoping to make a profit when they sell their purchases.
The venue is about one hour from Dublin – take Exit 15 from the M7 motorway.
Meanwhile, the “Long Fellow” also pops up at the Limerick Auction Rooms sale tomorrow, Sunday afternoon at 2.30pm.
A silver Éamon de Valera commemorative medal – one of 2,975 issued by Spink and Co London – features a portrait of the late former Taoiseach and President of Ireland on the front and an Ogham stone with inscription on the reverse. The estimate is €150-€200. – MICHAEL PARSONS
