Sherry FitzGerald has, appropriately enough, chosen not to invite the Taoiseach, nor the Fine Gael leader, to open its new Limerick office but rather the Tanaiste Mary Harney. Presumably, she will be there to give moral support to new branch manager, Des O'Malley Jnr. Sherry Fitz will probably find the going tough in a city where there are 15 main agents guarding their patches. However, with a high street location, next to Todds department store, and a rent of at least £45,000, the PLC will have to make its mark. Roving director Ian McCarthy, fresh from opening and running the new Galway branch, will be lending a his expertise in the opening months before moving on to Cork where the reception from the local agents is likely to be equally hostile.
