Linens, whites, taupes and mirror look calm on reflection

The design of the showhouse drawingroom at Claremount in Carrickmines makes the most of a room that isn't vast

The design of the showhouse drawingroom at Claremount in Carrickmines makes the most of a room that isn't vast. To give the illusion of space the sofa, floor covering and walls are all in light greys and creams with an occasional dark piece of furniture to give the room depth.

Interior designer Helen Turkington (01-412 5138) put three mirrors from Deco Mirrors, at €550 each, on the feature wall to make the room appear larger. The walls are painted in Zoffany Harbour Grey, and the ceiling is in a soft Farrow Ball shaded white.

Matching sprayed oak console tables either side of the chimney breast (€990 each) give symmetry to the room as do the four strategically placed table lamps (€210 each).

The Louis chair, painted in Farrow Ball Bell Mouse, comes with a range of fabrics. It was made in Helen Turkington's workshop and costs €1,100.
