Until now, the provost of Trinity College was the only person living on Grafton Street. Now with the launch of a small scheme of apartments for rent opposite Trinity, there's a chance for others to move to the street.
Four apartments have been carved out of the former Thomas Cook building at 116 Grafton Street, which overlooks the provost's grounds. The attractive bow-windowed building has four apartments, all with terrific views of Trinity College. The top-floor unit, a lavish penthouse with a large roof terrace, has already been let at an undisclosed rent. Two one beds have just been let and a duplex two-bedroom unit remains at a mere £2,000 (€2,540) through Colliers Jackson-Stops.
The conversion of the tall narrow building must have been a headache for architect Valerie Mulvin of McCullough Mulvin particularly as much of the work had to be carried on at night. The apartments, owned by developer Johnny Ronan, have all you would expect from award winning architects - stainless steel clad kitchens, glass brick walls, and stunning tall solid oak doors. Other landlords take note . . . there can be life, and a good income, over the shop.
