GREYSTONES €1,575,000: This four-bedroom house was built by the owners with an eye on nearby Edwardians, writes BERNICE HARRISON
IT TAKES a little while to spot that Inchamore, a detached house on Killincarrig Road in Greystones, is a new build, which is just as the owners intended. They bought the site – a quarter of an acre with planning permission – at auction in 2000 and later bought a little extra land bringing the area up to a third of acre.
Then they wandered around the neighbourhood, which is lined with fine detached Edwardian houses, and pretty much copied what they saw. The plus for them was that they were getting the look and feel of a period house without the ongoing maintenance and heating issues that can come with a house that is over 100 years old.
They’re hoping that new owners feel the same as the house is now for sale through Sherry FitzGerald for €1,575,000.
There is a distinctive white painted timber verandah at the front and, unusually, they also put one in at the back, outside the eat-in kitchen, on the reasonable grounds that the back of the house should be as good looking as the front.
Inside the layout at hall level is as expected: two interconnecting living rooms on one side of the hall, a large formal dining room on the other and a bright eat-in kitchen at the back. Matching white marble fireplaces, reclaimed from a grand period house, add character to the living rooms.
The kitchen is in a comfortable country style with painted timber units, an island and a fully fitted out utility room.
Upstairs the layout is a little less predictable – at the top of stairs is the main bedroom, effectively a large suite with its own full bathroom and dressing room. The three other bedrooms are doubles, all have en suites and one other one also has a walk-in wardrobe.
On up again and there are three more rooms at attic level: a home office, screening room and a tiny library. Each of these has large Velux windows.
The three levels make this house feel very roomy and give new owners scope in how they want to live in it.
The garden, which wraps around the house, is mature with trees and shrubs that must have been on the site when the owners acquired it and there is off-street parking for three cars.
