South Hill in Dartry is a quiet, well-established estate of mostly semidetached houses built on the elevated site near the Dodder Valley Linear Park in and around the 1950s. There is a green, just one vehicular entrance (so it’s not a drive through to somewhere else), and two pedestrian entrances: one from the Milltown direction, the other from Dartry.
South Hill houses tend to be bought by young families drawn to the suburban feel of the estate and its convenient location. No 33, a four-bed semi, last changed hands in 2010, bought by a family who updated and extended it to 137sq m (1,475sq ft).
It originally had a garage to the side, which the owners converted into a playroom to the front and a shower/utility room at the back. A covered side passage connects the front to the back garden.

These houses have spacious halls with a window. Off it are two reception rooms and the extended eat-in kitchen. Upstairs the layout is as original. There are two good doubles, a large single and a much smaller single. If new owners thought about extending up into the attic, the smallest room might be sacrificed to make way for a staircase.
They could also extend out over the playroom and make the house double-fronted both upstairs and down – a popular option in other houses in the estate that have been upgraded.
The back garden is a bit bare, though at this time of year most gardens look a bit miserable. The front garden is mostly gravelled over for parking and the entrance was widened for easier access. This was a wise move, As the original entrances in South Hill tend to be narrow to suit smaller 1950s cars.
No 33 is ready to walk in to, which will appeal to families trading up.
