BOOTERSTOWN €550,000:THE STEWARD'S House in St Helen's Wood, Booterstown, Co Dublin, is the real deal, in that it is a 19th-century house surrounded by replicas that were built in the early 1990s.
As the name suggests, it was built for the steward of St Helen’s estate.
In 1988 the estate was bought by a company controlled by Seán Dunne for a reported €14 million.
This company built the St Helen’s Wood development and for a time used the Steward’s House as its office.
The detached house, which is at the back of St Helen’s Wood, is on the market for €550,000 through Owen Reilly.
The exterior is very quaint and Victorian, like something in the English countryside, and it overlooks a green area.
It has four bedrooms and was refurbished and extended in 1995.
Accommodation includes a kitchen/dining room with plenty of white fitted units. There are double doors to a paved and gravelled garden with high stone walls.
There’s also a living room and sitting room. The main bedroom is en suite and there is a family bathroom as well.
The estate dates to the mid-18th century and has a long list of illustrious owners including the Gough family from 1842-1895 and Sir John Nutting from 1899-1918, before it was sold to the Christian Brothers.
In 1996 the Cosgrave Property Group bought the main house of the St Helen’s Estate, which is listed as a national monument, from Seán Dunne’s company for a reported £2 million.
It was then developed into a five-star Radisson Blu hotel, which opened two years later.
