Blackrock / €2.5m: A Victorian two-storey over basement house at 6 Park Villas Blackrock, Co Dublin, that has been owned by the same family since 1939, has an advised minimum value (AMV) of €2.5 million prior to auction through Sherry FitzGerald on March 8th.
Part of a terrace on Grove Avenue, the four-bedroom house is one of six overlooking a small green on which the owner, who has lived here all his life, remembers a herd of Friesian cows grazing when he was small.
The 1860s house retains most of its original features including elaborate plasterwork, ornate cast-iron fireplaces, working shutters, original floorboards, and quaint details like servants' bells.
The two-storey over garden level house is set in gardens which are mostly to the side and back; there is enough room in front for two cars and a "secret garden".
A flight of granite steps leads to the front door which opens into a gracious hall with a particularly beautiful ceiling cornice; to the right are two airy interconnecting reception rooms with original double doors, ornate cast-iron fireplaces, ceiling cornices and original wide window shutters. Up a shallow flight of stairs with stained glass landing window are four bedrooms, the main one a mirror of the drawingroom beneath, two smaller doubles and a small fourth which could be converted to a bathroom or walk-in wardrobe. The family bathroom is up a short flight of stairs. The garden level has a large kitchen opening to the back garden, a separate livingroom and a study which extends under the steps to the front door.
There is a shower room and understairs storage. There is a large double garage and stone shed at the side of the house.
