Describe the house

In a row of bungalows built around 1984 on Killiney Hill Road on the edge of the Bayview estate.

We have changed it to make the most of any light the sky offers. The large windows and Velux roof windows energise the bathroom, kitchen, and livingroom.

We used recessed storage in the bathroom that also has a shower cabinet fit for a sumo wrestler. The Hudson Reed taps set the large bath off beautifully.

The main bedroom has a walk-in dressingroom. This room and one of the other bedrooms takes the warm evening sun. The newly landscaped garden and our neighbours' mature trees make a relaxing backdrop to the dining area and livingroom.

Just this weekend we put washing-up liquid in the fountain and the toddlers had a foam party on the deck.

Why are you moving?

You could park a Lear Jet in the attic of our bungalow - what a pity you can't ride a motorbike up the Stira. My husband is a motorcycle adventurer and we now have two little boys, so it looks as if we will need lots of space for big boys' toys.

It would probably have been clever to move a few years ago - before we upgraded the house and gardens, but I have to admit I enjoyed planning the space and light, finding the best high-efficiency condenser boiler, or the bathroom fan that detects moisture, and the stereo that slots perfectly into the kitchen units.

What's the best thing about it?

Detached living in Killiney for under a million.

And the neighbourhood?

We're part of the sought-after Bayview estate with really nice neighbours . . . not Stepford Wives, nice but normal people who pick up papers, paint the communal walls, and have residents' events.

In six minutes you stroll through the estate onto Killiney Beach for a splash, or a ramble north towards Killiney Hill Park and Dalkey, or cycle south along miles of costal parklands that take you through Shankill to Bray.

Its Dublins Riviera - our Riviera - and for work it's only a short drive, Dart or Luas ride to the city, and you're minutes from the N11/M50.

Who would like to live in your home?

A retired couple who want to walk hand-in-hand on the beach - and will trade us for their bigger house nearby with a garage!
