FRENCH ALPS:FRENCH PROPERTY company MGM is enticing customers to its Alpine developments, in both winter and summer, with leaseback deals.

The French lakes and mountains property developer and specialist has a new "lease with flexi options" in which investors buy an apartment in the French Alps, excluding VAT of 19.6 per cent, and get an annual rent of 3 per cent of the sale price.

Owners can use the home as much as they like, but the relevant amount will be deducted from that 3 per cent.

The company has similar lease-back schemes offering owners a chance to spend more time in their homes than under previous schemes. MGM also helps with the lettings. The company has been building in the Alps for 40 years, in the Savoie and Haute Savoie and, more recently, in the Hautes Alps region.

Some of the properties are in larger resorts, such as Tignes and Les Arcs, but others - such at those pictured - are in less well know resorts such as Les Saisies.

If you are buying the property in order to spend more time skiing then it is worth opting for a resort that has access to a large ski area because - as your skiing improves - you will soon tire of a beginners or intermediate resort and will want larger and more challenging terrain. Research ski areas in specialist books such as Where to Ski and Snowboard or The Great Skiing and Snowboarding Guide or on the Ski Club of Great Britain website, although this mainly c.overs the better known resorts.
