Virgin to open Cork megastore

Virgin Retail is to open a megastore at the junction of Patrick Street and Grand Parade in Cork

Virgin Retail is to open a megastore at the junction of Patrick Street and Grand Parade in Cork. The store is part of the recently redeveloped Queen's Oldcastle Shopping Centre, once owned by Power Corporation and now held by Clarendon Properties. Virgin is paying a rent of over £200,000 for a groundfloor area of 13,000 square feet, which will be close to the new McDonalds restaurant, Game, Mothercare and Waterstones. Declan Stone of Colliers Jackson-Stops, who handled the letting, says several UK multiples are chasing a second store with 10,000 square feet.

Colliers Jackson-Stops has also secured a premium of £70,000 for the former Maidenform lingerie shop at 2 Henry Street, Dublin 1. The new tenant, Car Phone Warehouse, will be paying a rent of £85,000 per annum for the 800-square-foot shop. Another former lingerie shop in Henry Street operated by Knickerbox was recently taken over by Esat Digifone.
