'RUSTY RETURNERS' WREAKING HAVOC: Drivers returning to the road after taking an extended break from their cars are causing thousands of accidents a year, according to new research.

A survey of 1,700 British adults showed a third had taken a break from driving, often admitting they felt less confident when they got back behind the wheel.

The study, by insurance firm Zurich, found many "rusty returners" admitted to being more hesitant when driving after a break, sometimes struggling to park their car. Most of those questioned said it would be a good idea to go on a refresher driving lesson to regain confidence and skills.
