Leading figures in Irish motor racing have expressed the sadness and shock felt within the sport at the sudden death on Monday of Irish Times picture editor and acclaimed photographer David Sleator.

Aside from being an eager motorsport fan, Dave chronicled the last few decades of motorsport through his photographs, using his expert eye to capture the excitement, danger and adrenalin of Irish motorsport, particularly at the Phoenix Park Motor races.

Dave was also a racer in his own right and Motorsport.ie posted an image on social media taken by Con Connolly of Dave in his Modsport MG Midget racing at Mondello Park.
