Land Rover will give the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport a power boost to its diesel versions later this year, as the firm is expected to unveil a new 3.6-litre V8 engine for these models at next month's Madrid Motor Show.
The new premium V8 diesel engine is being built at Ford's Dagenham plant. It is a state-of-the-art twin-turbo 3.6-litre V8 power unit. The first of these came off the production line earlier this month.
The V8 will be built on the same production line, which has turned out 110,000 examples of Dagenham Diesel Centre's 2.7-litre V6 engines for Jaguar, Land Rover and PSA Peugeot Citroën. The new V8 boasts output of over 270bhp and develops up to 640Nm of torque.
The new engine will make its first appearance at the Madrid Motor Show in an upgraded Range Rover, which will also feature a new interior.
The new models are expected to go on sale in November.
It is also expected that this new powerplant will feature in new versions of the Jaguar S-Type, XJ and XK models.
A Land Rover Ireland spokesman would not confirm the arrival of the new engine, but did say that there would be an announcement from Land Rover at the Madrid Show, which begins on May 24th.
