PORSCHE IS finalising a new driver training centre adjacent to the Silverstone Formula One circuit in Britain. The centre, which includes over 3.4 miles of test track, will be open to Porsche owners for day-long training programmes. The price of the course is included in the price of 911s, Caymans and Cayennes so new buyers need only book an available slot. The scheme is now open to Irish buyers and it’s hoped to extend it to Boxster owners in the near future.
Included in the facilities is a low-friction circuit, which reduces grip and teaches drivers how to handle cars on slippy surfaces. Other systems include a high-tech kick plate that can throw the car’s rear axle at various speeds, imitating a rear tail spin, as if the rear wheels hit black ice or is shunted at the rear wing. Surrounding this is a longer circuit similar to a two-lane road, with various cambered corners, hills and bridges. The scheme is a unique facility and an investment by Porsche.
