Volvo is set to wow the crowds at the Frankfurt motor show with a striking new coupe model inspired by the 1960s P1800, showcasing a new design direction for the carmaker. Known simply for now as the Concept Coupe, the show car rides on Volvo’s new Scalable Architecture that will eventually underpin all Volvo models larger than the V40. The concept is powered by a 400bhp drivetrain consisting of one of Volvo’s new 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder engines and a plug-in electric hybrid battery pack, making it a four-wheel-drive car.
As well the styling cues, the concept also previews Volvo’s new Autonomous Steering system which is designed to help drivers avoid a crash. The system will make its debut on next year’s all-new XC90, which will also be making its public entrance at the Frankfurt show.
