Róisín Meets: Moms Demand Action on US gun control

In the United States, there have been more than 30 mass shootings so far this year, while the total for 2017 was 346, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive.

In February, 17 people were killed and nearly 20 others injured after a gunman opened fire on students and teachers at a High School in Parkland, Florida.

On the latest episode of the Róisín Meets podcast, Róisín Ingle talks to Mary Farley, an Irish-based American activist with the Moms Demand Action group, about why the student survivors of the Parkland shooting give her hope that her country is on the brink of real change.

This Saturday, millions of Americans will take part in March for Our Lives demonstrations in towns and cities across the country, piling pressure on the Trump administration to take action on reforming gun laws.

Ms Farley will take part in a rally in support of March for Our Lives, organised by concerned citizens, Democrats Abroad Ireland, and Moms Demand Action, at the US embassy in Dublin this Saturday at 3pm. She tells Róisín Ingle what motivated her to join the group, why president Donald Trump’s idea to arm teachers frightens her to her core and how you can support a constitutional right to bear arms, while also calling for stricter gun control.
