Folk parkRecognising that bringing a family out for a day trip isn't cheap, the Northern Ireland Tourist board has a two-for-the-price-of-one ticket promotion across many of the top family-friendly tourist attractions in the North.

The offer continues until June 30th.

Particularly for younger children, the Ulster American Folk Park is a good day out. Located five miles north of Omagh on the main A5 road between Omagh and Strabane, it is a vast interactive mostly outdoor exhibition telling the story of emigration from Ireland to North America during the 1800s.

The story begins at a recreated typical Ulster thatched cottage; shows life on-board one of the crowded sailing ships and then finishes in a typical homestead on the American frontier. For directions and admission information see nmni.com.

Caves

Older kids and teenagers might be more wowed by the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark (marblearchcavesgeopark.com), just outside Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh. Recognised by Unesco, it is one of Europe’s finest show caves with a natural underworld of rivers, waterfalls, winding passages and lofty chambers. Tours last around 75 minutes with plenty of chances to see the cave’s amazing stalactites and stalagmites. Visitors should wear warm clothes and sensible shoes as it gets cold underground.
