Malaria in Greece

An outbreak of malaria in Greece has been reported by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. Twenty cases have been reported so far and those who are reported to have contracted Malaria did not have any recent travel history.

“Because of the ongoing evidence of malaria transmission in Laconia district, Centres for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending that travellers to Laconia district in Greece take anti-malarial medicines. For the districts of Evia/Euboea, eastern Attiki, Voitia and Larissa, anti-malarials are not recommended at this time because there have only been a limited number of cases,” said Dr Graham Fry of the Tropical Medical Bureau.
