WEATHER:THE FREEZING temperatures will make people think of sunnier climes and there are plenty of places to get away from the cold.

While northern Europe has been enduring freezing temperatures, southern Europe has been basking in an unseasonably warm spell which is due to continue next week.

Athens has been recording temperatures in excess of 22C all last week. Crete can expect highs of 22C this week but Rhodes will have highs of just 19C.

Temperatures for Gran Canaria will range from 22C and 25C, about average for the time of year.

Tenerife will see highs this week of 26C, but Lanzarote will have mixed weather with a lot of rain midweek.

Agadir in Morocco will see temperatures peak this week at a maximum of 24C before falling to 17C.

There is guaranteed sunshine for travellers going further afield. The Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh will see unbroken sunshine this week and highs of 29C.

The Mexican resort of Cancun is the focus of world attention this week as the climate change talks reach their conclusion. It’s had mixed weather for the week with occasional showers but expected highs are still around 23C.

Australia is about to experience the hottest period of the year after a record-breaking spring in which the temperature hit a record 39C in Perth, western Australia.
