BELGRADE - ABOUT 10,000 students marched through downtown Belgrade yesterday, a day after parliament reinstated opposition election wins, pressing further demands for the resignation of the dean of Belgrade University.

The students snaked through the city for two hours, as they have every day for 12 weeks, before returning to Belgrade University. Besides restoration of the opposition wins in the November 17th local elections, the students want the resignation of the dean, Mr Dragutin Velickovic, who they say restricts their rights to free assembly and expression. They are also seeking the resignation of the head of the students' association, appointed by the college authorities.

The students have been staging demonstrations separate from those of formal opposition parties. These, too, will continue until disputed assemblies ceded in Tuesday's parliamentary vote are actually handed over, opposition leaders say.
