Compensation claims had arisen out of six separate falls on a dance floor at the Country Club, Portmarnock, at the same wedding reception in January, 1992, the Circuit Civil Court in Dublin has heard.

One of the victims, Mrs Eileen Newman (68) of Adare Park, Coolock, Dublin, was yesterday awarded £11,000 damages by Judge Raymond Groarke.

Mrs Newman said she got up to dance with a friend and fell on the floor. Later, as she was leaving the ballroom she stepped on the dance floor and slipped again, falling on her knees. She had hurt her neck and back and had badly hurt both her knees.
