A Co Offaly woman, whose golf, basketball and cycling pursuits were affected following a car accident, has been awarded £15,000 damages in the Circuit Civil Court.

Ms Anne Marie McMahon, a chemist, of Whitehall, Tullamore, said she had to abandon plans to open her own pharmacy following the accident at Newlands Cross in August 1992. She now worked as a temporary hospital pharmacist in Portlaoise and had experienced difficulty in arranging a pension scheme because of the whiplash injury she had suffered.

Her insurers had refused to cover any period of non working which might be caused by a recurrence of her injury.
