A garda who suffered physical injuries and psychological problems after a beating in a laneway was awarded £150,654 compensation by the High Court yesterday.
Det Garda Brian McNamara, now a photographer in the Garda Technical Bureau, was attached to Ballyfermot Garda station, Dublin, on the date of the incident, November 28th, 1992.
When he tried to arrest a man at a laneway in Palmerstown, Dublin, he suffered injuries to his shoulder and knee when he was attacked by another person with a heavy bar.
He was out of work for two years as a result of his injuries and suffered from post-traumatic stress.
