Manchester - A postcard sent by a British soldier serving in France in the first World War has been delivered after almost 80 years, it was claimed yesterday.
Mr Alan Rawsthorne (49) said he was amazed when the card arrived through the letterbox at his home on Cedar Road in Stockport, Greater Manchester. Dated July 24th, 1918, and addressed to a Miss Hunt it is signed "George" and pictures a French chateau on the front.
"We've done some investigating and found that there was a Miss Kate Hunt living here in 1918 and a George Hunt in 1920, so we think he might have been writing to his sister while he was away," Mr Rawsthorne remarked.
