The family of a Co Kerryfarmer who died from head injuries he received when he fell out of a hoist which was lifting him from his bed in Cork University Hospital settled its claim for damages against the Southern Health Board in the High Court in Cork yesterday.

Mrs Mary Carey (69), from Castlemaine, Co Kerry, the widow of Mr Patrick Carey, who died on July 5th, 1995, following the June 28th accident, was awarded £20,000 as the personal representative of his estate.

Mr Carey was being lifted in the hoist from his bed when it collapsed. He fell to the ground, striking his head and suffering severe injuries.
