As many as 20 people may sue the North's Department of Health as a result of claims that they contracted hepatitis C from blood transfusions.
The claimants have been encouraged by a case in Wales last month where more than 100 people sued their health authority and won on the same issue.
Mrs Gail Robinson from Downpatrick, Co Down, received a transfusion of blood plasma after a miscarriage in 1989 and believes she contracted hepatitis C from it.
She told the BBC she believed there should be an inquiry into her case and others.

A spokeswoman for the BTSB said last night it was very unlikely the organisation had ever supplied blood products to the North.
