Lagos - Twenty-six people have died this week in clashes stemming from a leadership dispute in the south-west Nigerian town of Owo, a government official said yesterday. Violence erupted early on Monday in Owo between supporters of two contenders to the town's headship, which was left vacant last year after the incumbent's death.
Police in Ondo State said that 10 people were killed and several houses and vehicles were burned during the clashes.
