Singapore - An opposition politician, Mr Tang Liang Hong, will appeal today against the largest-ever libel judgment in Singapore.

Mr Tang fled Singapore after failing to get a seat in the general election in January, saying his life had been threatened. During the election campaign, the Prime Minister, Mr Goh Chok Tong, and other members of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) accused Mr Tang of being "an anti-Christian Chinese chauvinist" who endangered racial harmony in Singapore. Mr Tang said they were lying, and Mr Goh and 10 other PAP leaders sued him for £3.6 million.
