The British government is to spend £67 million on the biggest-ever schools building programme in Northern Ireland.

The British government is to spend £67 million on the biggest-ever schools building programme in Northern Ireland.

The announcement was made by the Stormont Education Minister yesterday.

Mr John McFall said work was set to begin on eight new primary, four grammar, two secondary and two special schools.

"This huge capital investment will deliver much-needed modern facilities and new accommodation for almost 10,000 pupils and teachers," he said.

The £12 million to be spent on the St Pius X High School in Magherafelt, Co Derry is the largest allocation towards any school in the North from the education building package.

Work is expected to get under way at the end of the year.
