Lagos - More than 72,000 people have fled in two Nigerian states following ethnic clashes last month, the Nigerian Red Cross said yesterday. Mr Abiodun Orebiyi, secretary general of the Nigerian Red Cross said: "We have over 22,000 people, representing over 4,000 families displaced."
Meanwhile, more than 50,000 people have fled their homes in central Nigeria because of ethnic fighting in Nasarawa, he added. The deputy police commissioner of the Bauchi state confirmed unrest had taken place at the end of last month but said the situation was now "gradually returning to normal".
