Ninety jobs are to be lost as a result of restructuring at Co Kildare-based meat processor QK Meats. Management at the Naas plant has informed workers that it is to cease operations in its boning hall from today.

QK is part of the Queally group, which owns Dawn Farms and Lily O'Brien's chocolates.

Siptu, which represents some of the plant's workers, claimed the company had sought pay cuts of up to 50 per cent and failed to engage in reasonable negotiations.
