The transcript of a call to London's emergency services by a person who had just seen a double-decker bus blow up on the morning of July 7th has been released.
"There's people lying in the road, there's a London bus, it's a (number) 30, I think," the breathless caller told the 999 operator.
"There's people trying to get out. I think there's ambulances on the way, but there's people dead and everything by the looks of it."
The tape was played at a meeting of the London Assembly July 7 Committee, which was set up to look at how emergency services responded to the four suicide attacks on the public transport network that killed 52 and wounded hundreds.
The committee heard how emergency personnel and police tried to deal with the initial confusion caused by conflicting reports and were told what measures were taken once it became apparent the capital had come under attack.
Three Britons detonated bombs on separate underground Tube trains, and a fourth bomber blew himself up on the bus in central London about an hour later.
