DAVID James, the Liverpool and English squad goal-keeper was in town during the week but confessed he was mystified about reports in some papers that he was seen in Lillie's Bordello. He had just popped over for the day to put his old trainers into a shoe bin, officially closing the Marathon Sports/Nike Re-use a Shoe Programme.

Now that over 9,000 old sports shoes have been dumped in the bin, there is enough rubber to melt down and resurface the basketball court at Fairview in Dublin.

David then headed home to join his wife and three children for a holiday to Florida, but seemed to think that a real sighting in Lillie's might not be out of the question when he returns with the rest of the Liverpool team at the end of July to play a few matches in Ireland before next season's training starts.
