A pressing matter

Press access to the European Parliament buildings has been recently in the news

Press access to the European Parliament buildings has been recently in the news. As Parliament took over its new buildings in Brussels last month, Parliament's Bureau decided on the limits of access for press and television.

An area of dispute was whether or not photographers and TV cameras would be admitted to the building holding members' offices. In December, Parliament's Bureau clarified the position: photographers and TV cameras may film or take photos in members' offices, in the presence of the MEP concerned and with their agreement.

This position contrasts with the position in most national parliaments. In Leinster House, for instance, photographers and TV cameras are not allowed inside the front door.
