Hong Kong - An obliging Hong Kong gangster has been jailed after giving a receipt - complete with his name and ID card number - for protection money he extorted from a doctor.

Chan Koon Shing (46), went to Dr Lui Siu-ko's clinic on September 8th and demanded £35, claiming he was a member of a triad gang and that the district was under his protection, the South China Morning Post reported yesterday.

Dr Lui handed over the money, then asked for a receipt - which Chan supplied. The doctor later gave the receipt to police. Chan was jailed for a year on Saturday. Defence barrister Mr Selwyn Yu described his client as an "amateur". He had left the triads.
