A woman who alleges a Tipperary man raped her in his car near a disused Co Limerick sandpit told a jury she memorised his vehicle registration number.

"I did that because he raped me and I wanted him caught," she told Mr Denis Vaughan Buckley SC, prosecuting, in re-examination at the Central Criminal Court. Earlier, the now 29-year old woman told defence counsel Mr Brendan Grogan SC that she did not consent to sexual intercourse with the accused. The 32-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to the rape and sexual assault of the woman on December 29th, 1996. It was the second day of the trial. He told the jury in evidence he had consensual sex with the woman after they met in a pub.

The trial continues.
