Shop stewards in Quinnsworth Supermarkets have called on the executives of the two unions representing the 7,500 staff to ballot members to allow limited industrial action over goodwill payments from the transfer of ownership of the company to the British company, Tesco.

A claim by the workers for a share of the £640 million made in the sale to the British supermarket giant was rejected by Powers Supermarket Ltd, which owns the company, and the Labour Court.

A shop stewards meeting yesterday also called for information about current and future developments of the company.
