London - British Shakespearean actor Michael Williams, husband of actress Dame Judi Dench, has died after a long battle against lung cancer, his agent said yesterday. Mr Williams (65), died on Thursday afternoon at the home he shared with his wife in Surrey, southern England.
The couple, who played alongside each other in the popular 1980s television series, A Fine Romance, were married for 30 years. He was best known for his classical roles, having spent 14 years at the Royal Shakespeare Company under director Sir Peter Hall.
