The president of Sinn Fein, Mr Gerry Adams, has said the party will more than double its representation in the local authority elections tomorrow and perform strongly in the European elections.

He said the party would increase its local authority representation from 27 to 60 seats and was "in with a shout" for the final seat in the European elections in Dublin with its candidate, Mr Sean Crowe.

In relation to Northern Ireland's European elections, he said Mr Mitchell McLaughlin would be elected "if the Republican and progressive nationalist vote comes out on the day".

He said the party's vote would not suffer because of the continued search for the remains of IRA victims.
