An addict who said he still smokes heroin in prison when "lucky enough to get it" has been jailed for five years in consecutive sentences for a string of robberies.

Mark Deegan (22), Devenish Road, Crumlin, apologised at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to his victims and said he now saw them for the first time as real people. He pleaded guilty to eight robbery charges from May 17th to August 23rd, 2000. One of his victims was an 80year-old woman whom he verbally abused when she asked for her keys back from her snatched handbag. Another was a woman who was eight months pregnant.
